The Doyle Volunteer Fire Department received a $4,500 grant from the Sumter EMC Foundation to enhance firefighter safety and protection. The grant funding will help purchase new personal protective equipment (PPE) gear and a washer/extractor for proper cleaning and decontamination.
Ensuring firefighters have access to well-maintained PPE gear is crucial for their health and safety when responding to emergencies. This specialized equipment, including protective coats, pants, helmets, and more, safeguards firefighters from hazards such as heat, smoke, and toxic substances. Investing in up-to-date PPE gear and washer/extractor allows the fire department to protect their brave volunteers as they selflessly serve the community.
The new washer/extractor enables the fire department to properly clean their PPE after fire incidents, removing carcinogenic soot and other contaminants that can pose long-term health risks. Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness for this critical equipment is essential for firefighters’ well-being.
“The Sumter EMC Foundation is honored to support the dedicated volunteers of the Doyle Fire Department,” said Andrea Walker, Chairman of the Sumter EMC Foundation. “Their commitment to community safety deserves our utmost respect and assistance in obtaining these necessary resources.”
The Doyle Volunteer Fire Department is a vital emergency response force, providing fire protection and lifesaving services to residents of Doyle Community in Marion County and the surrounding areas.
