What is The Bright Ideas Program?
Bright Ideas is a grant program that supports Georgia-certified teachers in bringing exceptional educational experiences to life. Sumter EMC funds projects beyond the standard curriculum, inspiring students and enriching their learning journey. We believe in empowering teachers with the resources they need to inspire creativity, enhance learning, and make a lasting impact on students’ lives.
Grant Details
- Funding Range: A Minimum of $500 to a Maximum of $1,500
- Eligible Teacher Grades: Pre-K through 12th Grade
- Counties Eligible: Chattahoochee, Dougherty, Lee, Marion, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, Webster

- Encourage teamwork & collaboration
- Have clear, measurable learning outcomes
- Directly engage students
- Provide lasting educational benefits
Eligibility
Teachers must work in schools within Sumter EMC’s service area. This includes: Chattahoochee, Dougherty, Lee, Marion, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, and Webster counties.
Important Dates
- Applications Open: August 1, 2026
- Application Deadline: September 21, 2026 (New Deadline!)
- Awards Given: November 2026
Grant Recipients Must Submit a Final Project Report, including:
- Proof of materials purchased
- Photos and/or videos of students using the acquired items
- Detailed explanation of the project’s implementation and impact

Up, Up, and A-Ray!
Dana Albertson, math teacher at Schley County High School, had her high school students use concepts from Geometry to successfully design and build kites. Then, in a STEAM activity, students from her classes taught elementary students to make their own kites!
KinderQuest: Building Brains
Heather Coleman, Kindergarten teacher at Cooper Carver Elementary School, ordered math kits that strengthened students' number skills through hands-on, visual learning. She was able to purchase a number of different tools to help students understand math in ways not understood before.
Interactive Spanish Learning
Elena Carné Lorenz, Spanish teacher at Schley County High School, created a dedicated corner of her classroom into a Spanish Learning Library. With her Bright Idea, she made a space for students to play Spanish games, read books in Spanish, and made interacting with the Spanish language fun.
