Sumter EMC is pleased to offer three rebates to our members when they purchase an electric water heater, electric vehicle charger, or electric heat pump from an outside vendor.

Sumter EMC members may be eligible to receive up to a $250 rebate per water heater for installing a 40- or 50-gallon standard electric water heater, with a maximum rebate of $500 per home.
Are you eligible for a water heater rebate?
Those who qualify for rebates include:
- Members who build a new home in the Sumter EMC service territory and install a 40- or 50-gallon standard water heater; or
- A current Sumter EMC member who wants to change out a gas water heater for an electric one; or,
- All current electric members need to change out an electric water heater.
What actions should I take to receive my water heater rebate?
Members must submit proof of purchase and installation to Sumter EMC within 60 days of the electric water heater installation to apply for the rebate. In addition, a site inspection will be performed by a Sumter EMC representative to determine if the member qualifies for the rebate.
Residential and commercial Sumter EMC members may be eligible to receive a rebate for installing an electric vehicle charger at their home or business.
Commercial members may be eligible to receive a $500 rebate for installing a Level 2 or 3 Charger at their business. A maximum of 3 rebates per business will be awarded.
Residential members may be eligible to receive a $250 rebate for installing a Level 2 Charger at their homes.
What actions should I take to receive my EV charger install rebate?
Members must submit a copy of paid installation and charger invoice(s) within 60 days after the EV charger has been installed in their home or business in the Sumter EMC service territory.
Sumter EMC members may be eligible to receive a rebate to replace a central system electric or gas furnace with an electric heat pump.
Are you eligible for a heat pump rebate?
Those who qualify for rebates include:
- $400/ton (maximum of $1,000) rebate for residential members replacing an electric resistance central furnace, electric resistance baseboard heat, or electric resistance wall insert heat with a new electric heat pump; or
- $400 rebate for a residential member changing out a gas space heating unit for a heat pump; or,
- $400 rebate (maximum of $800) for a member changing out a residential central gas furnace for a heat pump.
* New heat pumps must be a 14 or higher SEER rating.
What actions should I take to receive my heat pump rebate?
Contact Sumter EMC to inspect your existing heating system before any new work is done and again once all upgrades are complete. The rebate program ends when the budget for the program is reached.
