The Columbus Technical College Foundation received a $4,784 grant from the Sumter EMC Foundation. The grant will cover the costs of GED testing fees for students pursuing their high school equivalency diplomas.
A GED credential not only opens doors to higher education, vocational training, and enhanced career opportunities, but it also signifies a significant personal and professional milestone. However, the financial burden of testing fees can create a daunting barrier for many aspiring students. By covering the GED testing fees, this grant from the Sumter EMC Foundation will not just eliminate that obstacle but also instill hope and optimism in more individuals, encouraging them to take this crucial step toward personal and professional growth.
The grant funding, administered through the Columbus Technical College Adult Education program, provides free GED preparation classes and testing services. Students can apply for fee assistance, ensuring that limited financial resources do not hinder their ability to earn their high school equivalency diplomas.
“Education is a catalyst for economic mobility and strengthens our workforce,” said Andrea Walker, Chairman of the Sumter EMC Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Columbus Technical College in supporting individuals as they pursue their educational goals and unlock new opportunities.”
Across Georgia, obtaining a GED benefits individuals by opening new doors of opportunity and contributing to developing a more skilled labor force, driving economic development, and enhancing local communities' overall quality of life. Therefore, the impact of this grant extends far beyond the individual students, creating a positive ripple effect that will be felt in our community for years to come.
